END OF SEASON I know I have been conspicuous by my absence but really I have had nothing to say nothing that I could say with using language that would get me into Trouble. CRT (canal River Trust ) has ruined our holiday and thousands of other boater's holidays be they owners or hirers. In a normal season Noreen and I covered approximately 600 miles this year we covered just under 120 for no other reason than CRT's Inability to maintain the canal and river system that they BY LAW have to!! we managed to cruise between Liverpool and Anderton (Northwich ) We were restricted in our movements by stoppages, Lock Closures because of failure, stoppages because of bank collapse and holes ie no bloody water, Now CRT keeps telling us (boaters ) that its due to Vandalism, Lack of Water, Too much water, the Weather, environment matters Vole Breeding season? And so many other perfectly pathetic excuses. The main reason for these stoppages is so so simple CRTs inability to unde

Ferry across Merssey

Today we decided to go over to New Brighton by traveling on the Ferry from Liverpool to Seacombe and walk the 3 mile to New Brighton along the Esplanade and the Magazine store. Its a lovely walk watching all the boats go in and out of the port, you can imagine how it was in years gone bye with hundreds of boats waiting out in the estuary for their turn to unload. However our walk was done with the wind and rain on our back and almost in our 3 mile walk we only met two other people.  On reaching New Brighton and the rain still comming down in turents we decided to take and early lunch. We found a chippy that in both Menu and decore  was back in the 50s. However food was really good and cheap though Noreen did not apreciate the Pea juice soaking into her Salad? You had best let Noreen explain that one.  After lunch the rain really started to come down, so we decided to take the advice of one of our diners and take the Bus back not just to Seacombe but direct to Liverpool, It was the bes

Again a plan that worked. as we are now in Liverpool Salthouse Dock arrived here yesterday. We arrived at the top lock at 11.00 to start our descent into Liverpool only to be met by Sid who greeted us with "you're booked to go in Tomorrow" After a few minutes of searching the internet to prove I was right, I was WRONG! yes, I was a day early, However,  we know Sid, and he and his crew love Noreens biscuits which are a good bribe and he let us through. the passage through the now much smaller "sids Ditch" due to the expanding Everton Stadium. with a gale-force wind blowing, it was a rough ride. when we reached the open water in the larger Docks things became really rough But I  always say if it wasn't safe they would not let you do it ???? So we are here we did our first tour of the shops this morning Tomorrow will be another adventure I fancy crossing the Mersey on a ferry maybe to New Brighton thats where all the oldies go.  I always think this as the Liv
Here we are again  Yet another twist in this strangest of cruises, As I recorded in my last blog was that we had arrived in Burscough, it is a great place to meet up with other boaters that haven't seen for some time I have no idea why it just appears to be that way. We only intended to be in Burscough 2 nights and had to stay 4 nights to get to Scarisbrick there are two swing bridges and yes you guessed it the day we were to leave a vehicle struck the Balestrade of the bridge and crippled the bridge it was either a large HGV or a Tractor either one it makes no difference as there are weight limit signs which should deter large vehicles going over the very rickety bridge but they all know that the police will not take action and neither will CRT . though this time the repair crew has opened the bridge for water traffic and closed it for everything else, I believe they are in no rush to fix it. This means that road traffic will not be able to use the road as a shortcut to the indust

ONE MORE LAP

Hi Well we have made it as far as Burscough the reason we did not turn Right at the Rufford junction is we are having a two days here in Burscough then a few days in our second home Scarisbrick and then we are going to Liverpool for another 6 days it looks like I will be in Liverpool for my Birthday. I apologise to all my Mancunian relatives, though I left there in 1965 at the age of 17 since then lived around this country and around the world, though my accent is still quite pronounced and I expect I still consider myself a Mancunian, However Noreen is a Salfordian and we were married in Salford I also play Guitar in Salford cathedral, I expect in all reality I am some one who is from where he is. I suppose thats why this nomadic life is easy for me in boating circles we say “where ever my boat is thats my home. From leaving Anderton Last Friday things went quite well and we made good time. Though Just after Preston Brook I had to do an emergency Stop on a boat with no brake

Homeward Bound

We Set Sail this Morning in the pouring rain, after four days of doing nothing except repairs and The Funeral (Everything when well it was a most beautiful Service ) first day back on the water and its bucketing down, that was 12 hours ago and its still raining However after 7 hours cruising we found our first stop and are in for the night. The most gratifying thing is everything is Still working fingers crossed its a good DIY  However, it is great to be back sailing and moving I had almost forgotten the feeling of freedom it gives you and the beauty that surrounds you and the idiots you share the water with, less than a mile into our journey and we faced a boat that had come adrift and was lying across the canal just a gentle tap on its bow pushed it back to the toe path and woke the crew who seemed unconcerned that they were not in the same place that they were when they went to bed last night and one young man was quite upset that I had the audacity to wake him up so early (09.15 )

Take a chance DIY

Hi Everyone As I said before every day is an adventure but our last adventure was a difficult one and one I was not happy with Buggerlugs had an electric problem but as most people know I am colour blind in fact I am the only colour blind Artist on the canal now thats a great accolade? So thats why I do not like Electrics. Last Sunday whilst on the Weaver I found a bad smell of burning coming from our bank of Batteries, it was easy to find the offending one as it had steam coming from it and it was red hot. Immediate action was required turn off the isolator switches disconnect the battery get the battery out before it blows, All sounds very dramatic and scary If I had known what I was doing I may have thought so!! So here we are on the weaver with one battery out of the system. Luckily I carry a spare but it is slightly bigger than the one I took out so the straps didn't quite fit however with a lot of squeezing puffing swearing I got it in and everything worked again
